Fitness Delivers Swiftness

Fitness Delivers Swiftness

If we jot down our new year goals, most of us will have “fitness” as the common one. We vowed at the end of 2017 that we will strive for an aerobicised body by the end of 2018. Now, let us analyze for how many years we have been pledging to do it. Probably for quite a few years!

Majority of us have been working in IT industries for a long time. We have had a very sedentary lifestyle all these years. We are desk-bound for the predominant part of our days, so much that if Yamraj sums up the hours of an IT engineer sitting at his computer in his life, the result will pretty much add up to the engineer’s whole life. Hope the lord then shows us some mercy.

Exercising daily before going to work or after coming back home from work just sounds easy. Practically, it is not that plain sailing and exciting, because along with our office jobs we all have some other responsibilities and we end up with no time for ourselves. But we have to understand that fitness delivers swiftness and we should search for options to get fit. Achieving fitness while working is not impossible.

Fitness Delivers Swiftness: Some easy office fitness mantras

The Chai time

Coffee/tea is the fuel of an IT engineer. Some of us get paralyzed brains without coffee. We can surely continue with the beverages, but simply by cutting down on the sugar that we add to our coffee/tea, we can move a little up the ladder in achieving fitness.

The Meeting time

We can encourage ourselves to have ‘meetings on-the-feet’ rather than ‘meetings on-the-seat’. This will not only help us in fitness terms but will also prevent us from falling asleep in meetings(winks). Thus, we will be more attentive and productive.

The Stretch time

Being fit and healthy does not imply being lean. Not all lean people are healthy and vice versa. For starters to fitness, we can simply try to take strolls periodically, do the minimal exercises that can be done at our desks, and follow fitness tips of our fitness gurus. These simple steps can relieve us from stress.

Say ‘No’ to the stairs while going to office

It won’t feel pleasant to reach office all sweaty and smelly after climbing up a flight of stairs. Moreover, it sounds like a herculean task. So, we can replace it with climbing down the stairs instead, every time we leave our office. Going downhill is not so difficult.

Corporate fitness programs

An organization’s prosperity and growth are directly proportional to its employees’ good health and happiness. There are various ways to implement corporate fitness in an organization, for example through mini walkathons and marathons, periodic fitness workshops, organizing sports tournaments and many more. Small perks to actively participating employees will also serve as a great boost. The company will get to experience lower rates of absenteeism and higher productivity.

Time to indulge in a sporty hobby

Take up a sport as your hobby if you don’t already have one, not to watch the sport but to play the sport. Dance lessons, yoga, aerobics, and Zumba are great alternatives. We usually find it onerous to work out on weekdays, but we can take the pain of moving our lazy selves out of the bed for some time on the weekends. This is a great way to relax, to socialize, to shrug off our mental fatigue. We can also add to our list of talents and bask in the goodness of a healthy life.

The sooner the better

These little steps will chuck off the various occupational hazards like frozen shoulders, fatigued eyes, sore back and much more. Let us start sowing the seeds now so that we can relish the fruits soon. If we are mentally and physically fit, we will indeed deliver better results at our workplace and in fact swifter results too. Mental freshness will increase our work efficiency. We will prosper and our organization will flourish.

These baby steps may not bring about an enormous change in our physical looks, but will undeniably help us become confident and get a healthy mind and body. Let us move and groove while we work. Be fit, be swift.
